What is FASD and Neurodivergence anyway?
And why do we need different tools?
Neurodivergence refers to a variety of brain-based differences, which can include conditions such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). These variations in neurological development can impact how individuals think, behave, and interact with the world around them.
FASD specifically results from prenatal alcohol exposure, which can affect brain development and lead to lifelong cognitive, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
Individuals with FASD and other neurodivergent conditions often face unique barriers within systems like education, healthcare, and justice. These challenges may be misunderstood by those unfamiliar with neurodivergence, leading to inappropriate interventions or missed opportunities for support.
